The Backdrop CMS community is proud to announce our fifth software release: 1.4.0! The May 15, 2016 release date was right on time, following Backdrop's rolling release cycle. This release of Backdrop includes lots of exciting new features, including two new modules in core: Redirect and Project Installer!
The Backdrop Blog
Stardate 47634.44: We’ve encountered the Backdrop CMS, and found it to be the fastest way to make a flexible and modern website. Using the code and concepts we know from Drupal 7, it optimizes web development for 2016.
However, we are perplexed why our development workflows are still archaic and barbaric. To right this wrong, we must violate the Prime Directive and bring technology from the future.
Last weekend Nate & I headed south to Guadalajara in order to attend Drupal Camp Mexico. While there we gave our standard Backdrop talk with a few new twists.
I’ve been building a lot of Backdrop sites lately. Hooray! Most of these new Backdrop sites will belong to people who were previously the proud owners of a Drupal site. But every now and then, I get to work with people who don’t have any experience with Drupal at all. “It’s very similar to Drupal” isn’t going to be a convincing argument if they don’t already know (and love) Drupal. These people want to see sites that have been built with Backdrop.
Last week Nate & I headed down to beautiful San Diego to participate in the San Diego Drupal Camp. San Diego is a fantastic place to visit in February, when most of the country is experiencing the bitter cold of winter. The locals pointed out that it wasn’t actually all that nice out, because “some people need to wear socks!”
In Backdrop, as in Drupal, there usually seems to be more than one way of doing the same thing, and in this blog contribution I am not suggesting that this is THE way to theme your site, it just happens to be a way I have used with some success.
The Backdrop CMS community is pleased to announce our fourth software release: 1.3.0! The release date of January 15, 2016 also marks a one-year anniversary of Backdrop's official releases. It's been quite a year and we're excited to share with you all the new features in our latest version.
User Experience Improvements
Backdrop 1.3.0 had frequently been called the User Experience Release, with over 32 new user experience (or "UX") improvements. Backdrop 1.3.0 is more consistent and easier to use than ever before. Some of these new UX features include:
On the tails of 2015, I can only look back with pride at all our growing community has accomplished this past year.
We released Backdrop CMS almost one year ago and already we’ve had two successful new major releases, right on schedule. Those releases introduced some important new features like a rich-text editor in core, and some big user experience improvements like a new look to our administration theme.
If you've been waiting to give Backdrop CMS a try, today is the day. Backdrop 1.2.0 was just released with all the killer features you've been waiting for.
