I run a small web development shop. We specialize in Backdrop CMS and Drupal, but also maintain Wordpress sites and have dabbled in building phone apps. I work with local contractors from time to time and have had a relationship with the same small team of developers in Bangladesh for about 7 years now.

I created my Drupal.org profile over 16 years ago and have been on BackdropCMS.org for just over 8 years.  I continue to use Drupal for some projects and attend Drupal events. But, I am disappointed in the fact that Drupal today is no longer a project that would have been attractive or accessible to me where I was 16 years ago, Backdrop CMS would be.

I knew the founders of Bacdkdrop CMS and admired their work from the beginning, but came to be involved with and use Backdrop CMS several years later.

My commitment to Backdrop CMS is to keeping it the kind of tool that would still appeal to me, back when I first began this work and knew very little about writing code.

I have been on the Project Management Committee (PMC) for Backdrop CMS for about 6 years (fact check). I try to represent the voices of site architects and site owners on the PMC as much as possible. But, I also feel very strongly about the community aspects of an open source project like ours.

As I write this, the Backdrop CMS community is struggling to figure out how to deal with the AI explosion happening around us. I very much consider myself an active explorer of AI technologies because I see the tidal wave coming and feel like I need to fully understand this technology if I am going to be able to live in it's wake. But, I also fear this technology and how disruptive it will be to our economies and the disruptions it will cause to individuals around the globe. In short, I don't think that the Backdrop CMS community can avoid AI, I believe that for our survival we need to be thinking about how we can best live in a landscape dominated by AI, and we need to be respective of those who choose to limit their use and exposure to AI due to ethical and personal concerns. Striking a balance will not be easy, but I'm confident that we can find a way.
