EDIT (02/23/2022): A problematic bug was found in 1.21.0 and we have issued a new release to resolve the issue. Please, upgrade directly to 1.21.1 to get all these new features without the bug.

Backdrop core developers and project leaders are frequently called upon to make important development decisions, with very little information about how site owners and administrators typically use Backdrop CMS and how they configure it. With the release of Backdrop 1.20.0 (and later versions), we hope that situation is getting better, but we need your help.
Preview Release available for Backdrop CMS 1.21.0
There is a preview release available for Backdrop 1.21.0. Please use this version if you would like to help us test the features in the new version of Backdrop prior to the official release on January 15th, 2022.
Please, consider spinning up a new site or testing this preview release on a test site to help us catch any new bugs or regressions.

Backdrop 1.18 Released!
The Backdrop community is proud to announce version 1.18 of Backdrop CMS, which was released on January 15, as scheduled. As part of our commitment to deliver the most usable product, the "minor" releases come out like clockwork, three times a year. This allows site maintainers to know when to expect updates, and they can plan accordingly. (See https://backdropcms.org/releases for more information on this)
Help wanted - finalizing Backdrop CMS 1.18.0
Backdrop CMS is just under a month away from our 19th on-time release, version 1.18.0. Every 4 months, we release a new version which brings with it new improvements and features to Backdrop CMS. Feature freeze is scheduled for Jan 1, 2021 (this may be adjusted for the holiday) and the release will be on Jan 15th. In the final weeks of each release cycle, there is a frenzy of activity and we try to get new improvements finalized and approved.

Backdrop CMS 1.15 Released
We did it! Backdrop CMS is five years old today and we just pushed our 15th release 🎉
Backdrop 1.15 is officially available with the usual mix of bug fixes, improvements to the user interface, and a couple of exciting new features.
Backdrop CMS 1.14 Released
The Backdrop CMS community is excited to announce the release of Backdrop CMS version 1.14! Version 1.14 comes with a mix of bug fixes, improvements to the user interface, as well as several new features:
Flexible layouts (configurable in UI):
This exciting new feature is the highlight of version 1.14. Site editors will now have the ability to create their own custom page layouts through a simple and easy to use user interface (issue #3755).
