DrupalSouth 2016: We come in peace.
DrupalSouth was in Gold Coast in the "Sunshine State" this year and Backdrop was invited to present. Being a member of the PMC residing in Australia, I was asked if I could do the presentation and I gladly accepted.
The BADCamp Experience
This was my first BADCamp. Though I have been to many other DrupalCons and Camps, I had heard that BADCamp still retained the sense of community and was scaled to allow for a great deal of interaction between presenters and attendees. To that end, BADCamp exceeded my expectations!
Backdrop 1.5 released
Backdrop 1.5 is a release packed with new features and an all-new out-of-box experience! A new default theme -- "Basis", drop-down menus, a homepage layout, demo content, and hero block provide a fresh take on the fundamentals of a modern day content management system.
Creating pull requests against core: the easy (noob) way
I do not consider myself a coder. My contributions in the issue queues both in drupal.org as well as in the GitHub repository of Backdrop CMS had very little to do with actual code.
Pantheon + Terminus + Drush + Backdrop CMS Development Workflow

DrupalCorn is an annual Drupal Camp in Iowa. Two years ago Nate & I were invited to be Keynote speakers and talk to their attendees about Backdrop CMS, which at the time, had not yet been released.
Backdrop CMS at the Twin Cities Drupal Camp (and security + affordability)
This year at the Twin Cities Drupal Camp there was a full-day Backdrop CMS training workshop to kick off the event. As opposed to previous workshops on Backdrop, the students in this class were primarily decision makers - those responsible for deciding whether Backdrop was suitable for their new projects, existing sites, entire departments, or website development shops. It would appear that it is finally time to start making decisions about the future!

The Backdrop CMS community is proud to announce our fifth software release: 1.4.0! The May 15, 2016 release date was right on time, following Backdrop's rolling release cycle. This release of Backdrop includes lots of exciting new features, including two new modules in core: Redirect and Project Installer!
