Backdrop is pleased to announce the first of three annual releases for 2018 that includes some brand-new features and a long list of fixes!
One of the new features that stands out in the 1.9.0 release is the ability to manage individual files. You can now replace a file, and all pages where that file is referenced will be automatically updated.
This latest version also makes some changes to the behavior of certain pages. For example, Backdrop no longer handles all 404 pages by default, thus eliminating non-errors from appearing in the error log. (NOTE: current sites will be unaffected by this changes unless they update the .htaccess file).
Also the main user account page at /user
has been updated to simply redirect traffic to either /user/login
or /user/[uid]
to make for a more consistent experience for both developers and site visitors.
Of course, Backdrop 1.9.0 also includes all the latest bug-fixes and user experience improvements that are in version 1.8.2. Given the closeness between 1.9.0 and 1.8.2, it is our recommendation that all sites upgrade directly to 1.9.0 as soon as possible.
