What is the PMC?
The Backdrop CMS Project Management Committee is responsible for guiding the direction of the Backdrop project. The PMC makes policy decisions, and occasionally resolves conflicts within our community. The PMC can also be called upon to unblock issues in the core issue queue, by making a decision when there is no clear consensus on whether or how to solve a technical problem. The PMC also holds the responsibility of managing the community finances, and protecting valuable assets like the Backdrop CMS trademark.
How does the PMC do its work?
The PMC does most of its work in private issues on Github, and historically, held supplemental meetings only as needed. Over the last year, the PMC has increased our involvement, most notably by holding regularly scheduled meetings every two months.
A desire for more openness
As we approach our 30th release of Backdrop CMS, we have been discussing how we might more openly communicate our decisions with the community. This message, and future posts following each meeting, is a first step in that direction.
Recent PMC decisions
We recently voted that Backdrop CMS could sponsor events that feature Backdrop CMS in mini-camps, summits, training workshops, or sessions. We set an initial limit of up to $500 per event, and up to $2000 per year. Most recently, Backdrop CMS was a sponsor of Badcamp in October 2024.
Our newest core committer
Joseph Flatt has recently been added to our team of core committers. Joseph has been an avid supporter of Backdrop since the very beginning. He’s known for tackling hard problems and seeing them through to resolution, for example, leading the charge to get entity caching into Backdrop core. Joseph has also been a cornerstone at Backdrop CMS community events.
Our newest PMC Member
Irina Zaks has recently been added to our PMC team. Over the last 1-2 years, Irina has probably been the most enthusiastic and outspoken representative of our community in the Higher Ed world, presenting BackdropCMS projects at Drupal Camps and DrupalCon.
