The Museum of Arts and Design website had been running on Drupal 7 for 13 years. With the EOL of D7 coming up we were looking for a solution that would be relatively painless and allow to move forward with all of our content.
The communications team debated different strategies to handle the upcoming end of life for D7 including starting a new site, migrating to Drupal 10, and Backdrop. The team wanted to keep the past content, but a D10 migration was too costly and time consuming. It was decided that Backdrop would be the best option.
Our web developer was able to move the database and port the museum's custom theme in about 20 hours with no prior experience with Backdrop.
Backdrop was chosen for this project for the ease, perceived time investment, improvements on Drupal 7, and cost.
