LSP needed a platform to make their research available to the public in an easily accessible form, including an interactive map to show the areas in Shelby County where lynchings occurred, summaries of each lynching event and digital copies of archival newspapers and materials. A current news stream is used to show media coverage of the project as well as related material, and a list of upcoming events helps publicize LSP meetings, which are open to the public, and other relevant events in the area.
The site needed to be very user friendly and provide an intuitive way to add and link together all the various elements on the site: historic lynching events, research and archival materials, current news and upcoming events. The project is almost completely volunteer run and so affordability was also a key factor. Backdrop was a perfect fit.
