The most commonly used Drupal 7 features were added into Backdrop core.

Backdrop hopes to be a complete and feature-rich product, right out of the box. Many features that are used by the majority of websites have been moved into Backdrop core. Below you'll find a list of contributed modules that are no longer necessary to add to a Backdrop site. Some of these modules have been moved directly into core, some have been integrated into existing core modules, and still others have been reworked or rewritten with Backdrop's philosophy in mind -- usually to address performance or usability issues.

Modules now included core, or no longer necessary include:

  • Admin menu (moved into core, renamed Admin Bar module in v1.0)
  • Block class (integrated into System module in v1.0)
  • Caption Filter (integrated into CKeditor module n v1.2)
  • Chaos Tools (integrated into various System modules in v1.0)
  • CKeditor (moved into core in v1.2)
  • Comment closer (merged into comment in v1.10)
  • Context (replaced by Layout in v1.0)
  • Date* (partially moved into core in v1.2 - Date Repeat remains in contrib)
  • Display Suite (replaced by Layout module in v1.0)
  • Elements (integrated into System modules in v1.0)
  • Email (moved into core in v1.2)
  • Entity API (merged into System module in v1.0)
  • Entity view mode (merged into Field UI module in v1.6)
  • Features* (partially replaced by Configuration Management in v1.0)
  • File entity* (partially integrated into File module in v1.0 + v1.6)
  • HTML5 Tools module (integrated into System modules in v1.0)
  • IMCE Wysiwyg bridge (replaced by CKeditor and System modules n v1.2)
  • Insert (integrated into CKeditor module n v1.2)
  • Instant Filter (integrated into System modules in v1.0)
  • jQuery Update (not needed, Backdrop keeps jQuery up to date)
  • Libraries API (not needed, libraries in Backdrop are bundled into modules)
  • Link (moved into core in v1.2)
  • Menu block (integrated into System & Menu modules v1.5)
  • Module Filter* (partially integrated into System module in v1.0)
  • Nice Menus (replaced by System menus in v1.5)
  • Node Block (provided by Node module in v1.5)
  • Panels  (replaced by Layout module in v1.0)

A * above indicates that there may be features included in the D7 version of the module that were not moved to core for Backdrop. For example: Date repeat (a sub-module for Date in D7) is still in contrib for Backdrop CMS.
